A NEW WAY OF GETTING DRESSED.

11.13.26

Remember when getting dressed felt like possibility? A trip to the mall was an excuse to perform your identity and purchase new ones. That feeling was addicting. It followed me into my twenties, where I built a whole world of my own. On November 13, 2016, I stepped away from that world, promising I’d be back.

Cancer took a lot from me, leaving me feeling like the flame of my passion had been almost entirely extinguished. Most survivors are all too familiar with the reacclimation that comes with becoming familiar with yourself again. It alters your brain chemistry, and I will forever be grateful that it did. I learned, inherently, to trust that I had my own back. And that was needed before I could evolve in the biggest way yet.

I exited the binary in my late twenties as I acquired the language for something I’d felt my whole life. Yet again, I needed to become familiar with myself, this time through how I navigated this world and presented within it. That ember that had been holding on finally sparked.

After promising I'd return, I'm back with a different perspective, a new purpose, and a belief that getting dressed can be about so much more than clothes. It's about coming home to yourself.
